Alim Memorial Gold Medal is the greatest award inaugurated in the field

of ophthalmology. Professor Alim Chowdhury was the pioneer Eye specialist and a well known organizer of the then East Pakistan. His skill and performance in treatment and education in the field of ophthalmology was unbounded and gave leadership to the professional organization. In his professional life he gave an effective and fruitful leadership to all the medical professionals including ophthalmology.
In the liberation war of 1971 he, along with other famous professionals was killed brutally by the Al-Badr. All the medical scientists along with the people of the newly built independent Bangladesh were deeply shocked by this sacrifice. The Ophthalmological society of Bangladesh inaugurated the Alim Memorial Gold Medal to commemorate his holy spirit.
The Alim Memorial Gold Medal is awarded to a famous Eye specialist of the country every three yearly.
