Membership of Ophthalmological Society of Bangladesh:
A. There will be six categories of Members of OSB as follows: ( 28th AGM,2001)
1.General Members:
(a) Any person who is a registered medical graduate with MBBS or equivalent qualifications having an additional Post Graduate qualification in Ophthalmology such as -FCPS(Ophth); FRCS(Ophth); FRC(Ophth), MS(Ophth); Ph.D(Ophth); DO, DOMS & DCO recognized by BMDC may become a General Member of OSB by applying in due manner and paying the dues as decided by the Executive Committee from time to time.
(b) I. Existing general member (except Patron member/Life member) who is a registered medical graduate with MBBS or equivalent qualification recognized by the B.M.D.C may continue to remain as a general member on payment of Annual dues as per Article VII, subject to the condition that he/she at the time of renewal produces proof of his/ her continuation to work as ophthalmic Medical Practitioner in an eye department of a Government hospital or Non-Government Eye Hospital or doing private practice solely in Ophthalmology subject, to scrutiny of such declaration by Executive Committee of the OSB.
II. Existing general member without Post-Graduate qualification in Ophthalmology when he/she is posted in a speciality other than ophthalmology, or takes up an employment in other discipline of medicine or administration, or leaves ophthalmic practice solely or partly will automatically become an Associate Member without voting rights, provided that he has cleared all the dues as well as current annual subscription as decided by E.C. as per Article VII.
(c) A person eligible to become a general member, his/her name will be duly proposed and seconded by existing members. His/her Curriculum Vitae and proof of eligibility will have to be submitted. Such application will be placed in the meeting of the Executive Committee. On approval by the Executive Committee, the Secretary General will inform the applicant and he/she may become a general member on payment of appropriate dues.
(d) Membership fee, both admission fee and annual subscription fee will be decided by the Executive Committee from time to time.
(e) Annual subscription will fall due on 1St January every year. The dues must be cleared by 15th August. After 15th August he/she will not be eligible to become a voter. Any person defaulting in payment of annual subscription his/her membership will be restored on payment of all previous dues. If any member fails to clear the dues for more than consecutive 04 years he/she will have to pay admission fee to renew membership.
(f) A general member failing to pay the dues for consecutive 04 years will have to be readmitted as a new member and will have to pay admission fee and complete necessary formalities as needed for new member.
2.Associate member:
(a) Any registered medical graduate who is working in the field of ophthalmology may become an associate member.
(b) Any general member when changes specialty and wishes to continue the association with the society may remain as associate member.
(c) Any person whose association society feels will be helpful may be
Inducted as an Associate Member.
(d) Any application for Associate membership will have to be duly proposed and seconded by regular members, placed in the E.C. for approval, and on approval by the E.C. may be enrolled on payment of proper dues.
(e) An Associate Member will enjoy all the privileges except voting rights to elect the E.C. or voting in the A.G.M. nor he/she can seek election to E.C.
3.Honorary Member:
(a) Any person from within the profession or from outside the profession from home or abroad, who in the opinion of the E.C. has rendered exemplary service to mankind in any field may be inducted as an honorary member.
(b) An honorary member will not pay any dues and will not have any voting right, nor can he/she seek election to E.C.
4. Life Member:
(any member (except Associate & Honorary) who wishes to become a life member may do so by paying at a time an amount of Tk. 3000/- (three thousand) provided that he has already remained a general member of OSB continuously for 5 years. And has to have postgraduate Ophthalmic qualification as per Article VI. 1(a). ( 26th AGM,1999)
(b) Existing life Members will continue to remain life Members with all the privileges of Life Members even if any such Life Member do not possess postgraduate qualification in ophthalmology, unless he/she wishes to resign his/her Life Membership.
5. Advisers (E.C Member):
A past President of the Society will be advisor member of the society and enjoy all the privileges of the society. They will attend the EC meetings & give their opinion/advice whenever requested.
6. Patron Members:
(a) A general member may become a patron member by subscribing /donating at a time an amount of Tk. 25,000/- (Twenty five thousand) or more provided he/she has already remained a general member of OSB continuously for at least 3 years.
(b) I. A life member may become a patron member by subscribing /donating at a time an amount of Tk. 25,000/- (Twenty five thousand) or more at any time.
II. Existing Patron Members will continue to remain Patron Members with all the privileges of Patron Members even if any such Patron Members even if any such Patron Member do not posses post-graduate qualification in ophthalmology, unless he/she wishes to resign his/her Patron Membership.
B. Branch Members
(a) Members of the branches will become a member of the society provided their application for membership in the prescribed Performa is processed & approved in the usual manner in the meeting of the E.C. of OSB like all other categories of Members. Branches will follow all the rules as enunciated in Article-VI of the constitution in inducting a new member. Branches also will remit 50% of all admission fee, annual subscription, Life Member fee and patron member fee to the central office of the society.
(b) A member of one branch or direct member of the centre when moves to a new place may become affiliated to the branch of the new area without payment of further dues till the next renewal date. But such member will have to notify to the branch of the new area where he/she has moved declaring his/her intention and also notify the branch where he/she was previously registered and the branches will notify the society's office.
Ophthalmological Society of Bangladesh (OSB) is the registered professional, non-political Society formed by the Eye Specialist and Eye Physicians of Bangladesh.
