For expansion and extension of ophthalmology in this country and for the majestic image of the Ophthalmological Society of Bangladesh today, the performance of Professor M.A. Matin is remarkable. He is an ideal teacher as well as a physician. From the beginning of his professional life he was deeply associated with the activities of OSB and led this organization. He acted as its president for over an a and a halt.Being in charge of different ministry in the country politics he never gave up this responsibility. When he was in charge of the Department of Health and Welfare Ministry he performed solely to establish the National Institute of Ophthalmology. To commemorate his performance Matin Gold Medal Award was inaugurated in the year of 1991 for the Best Article from the young Eye specialists.
